Samsung Error Code 22E & 22C (Fan Error Fix)

If your Samsung refrigerator is flashing 22E or 22C, it means the Evaporator Fan is stuck or broken.

This fan pushes cold air around the fridge. When it fails, you might hear a loud buzzing noise (fan hitting ice) or the fridge might go silent and stop cooling properly.

The Quick Fix: Try a “Forced Defrost”

Before you call a repairman, try this reset. It forces the fridge to heat up the cooling coils to melt any ice blocking the fan.

  1. Hold Energy Saver + Power Cool (or Freezer + Lighting) for 8-10 seconds until the screen beeps.
  2. Press any button repeatedly until you see “Fd” (Forced Defrost).
  3. Let it run for 20 minutes (it will beep continuously).
  4. Unplug the fridge for 2 minutes, then plug it back in.

If the noise stops and the error clears: You are good to go! It was just an ice jam.

What if the Error Comes Back?

If the code returns after a few days, your fan motor is dead. You have two options:

Option 1: The DIY Fix If you are handy, you can replace the fan yourself. It is a cheap part, but requires removing the back panel inside the fridge.

Option 2: Call a Pro If you aren’t comfortable with tools, it’s time to call a technician. Tell them you have a “22E Evaporator Fan Error” so they bring the right part.
